It started with a shoebox
tucked under my bed.
My Permission to Pause wasn't born from a business plan. It was born from a moment of genuine need — and years of learning what actually helps.

I've spent much of my adult life navigating mental health services.
Exploring countless tools to help me manage emotions and break free from unhelpful coping strategies. Some worked, some didn't — but each experience taught me something.
Over time, I gathered those lessons and created what I now call my Permission to Pause Box. It began as a simple shoebox tucked under my bed — filled with little things that helped ground me.
When I felt overwhelmed or impulsive, I'd take it out, set a timer, and give myself space to engage all five senses. That box became my lifeline. It was a way to stop, breathe, and remind myself: this moment is mine.
From a shoebox to something bigger.
As my healing journey continued, the box grew — physically and emotionally. It became a sturdy wooden chest, filled with items that brought me comfort, clarity, and calm.
The benefit of my personalised pause box is indescribable, and I realised that this activity may benefit other people who suffer like I have.
